This helped calm my racing mind immediately.

How do you calm your racing mind?

I dance, walk in nature, step onto my yoga mat to practice, breathe deeply, chant, connect with loved ones and pray.

But I never knew that creating a yantra would also do the trick.

What’s a yantra?  According to my teacher, Ekabhumi Charles Ellik, yantras are mystical diagrams composed of sacred geometry, symbols of cosmic unity. Roughly translated, “yantra” means “tool” or “device.” As a tool, yantras are used to withdraw consciousness from the outer world, and go beyond the normal framework of mind to a state of consciousness known as Turiya, which is the background that underlies and transcends the three common states of consciousness:  waking consciousness, dreaming, and dreamless sleep.

Yantras  are also simply beautiful.

Last weekend I learned how to create the geometric patterns of a yantra the old-fashioned way, using a compass and a straight edge.  The process was mesmerizing and the product captivating.  For some people, the process was super frustrating before it became meditative – which made it a very fruitful practice!

You don’t have to create a yantra from scratch to reap the mind-calming benefits.  You can color them and then meditate on the design.  My favorite coloring book for yantras  is  Ekabhumi’s “The Shakti Coloring Book” because not only does he provide beautiful images for you to color, he also teaches the deeper wisdom and meanings of all the shapes, symbols and colors.

Whether it’s through chanting, praying, dancing, gardening, needlepoint or coloring, my prayer is that you find ways to calm your mind this holiday season.

Everything in life is better with a calm mind. Tweet It!

Yoga + Old World Cuban Culture

Pinch me!  I’ve been invited to lead a yoga + cultural adventure trip to CUBA on February 6 – 13th.    This is a legal and licensed trip for US citizens, and we will have a very special itinerary and personal guides during our trip.  We will experience old Havana – the food, dancing, culture, beaches and people before it becomes widely open to US tourism (No Starbucks yet!) … and, of course, we’ll be travelling with an amazing like-minded group who are up for an experience of a lifetime!

On top of that, we will also meet the “Godfather of Yoga in Cuba”  ~ Eduardo Pimentel.
Eduardo has humbly dedicated that last 30 years of his life spreading the teachings of yoga.
Our small group will share yoga with his community…. an exchange from the heart.  I can’t wait!

Your Wild Feminine Cannot Be Broken – But It Does Need To Be Nurtured

I have some great wisdom to share with you – two great ways you can nurture your wild feminine this month!

I just returned from a magical week in Costa Rica with 33 women who participated in my Bliss Retreat. Every year this retreat is powerful and transformative, but this year it was beyond the beyond. Many of the women had experienced major loss or trauma in the last year (including me) and were brave enough to bring it out into the Light to be healed. Each one of them shared feelings that they felt perhaps their capacity for bliss had been broken beyond repair by the pain. That they would never again tap into their wild feminine power, joy or ecstasy.

But, miraculously, every one of them did. In a big way. The first days were spent removing energy blocks and releasing huge emotions. Then, by the end of the week, gratitude became the predominant feeling. Joy was contagious. Spontaneous laughter and hugs became the norm. Women radiated the feelings of being alive, passionate and expansive.

If I could wave my magic wand, I would have transported each and every one of you to join us for seven days of bliss. But since I haven’t mastered that ability yet, I thought I’d create a one-day mini-retreat you could do at home each month. This month, the theme of your Bliss Retreat will be GRATITUDE. As my good friend, Rochelle Schieck always says: “Gratitude is a super power!”

And as promised, I also have an amazing resource for you to nurture your Wild Feminine:

The Freedom of the Feminine” – a new online course created by my good friends Kate Northrup and Tami Lynn Kent.  I’ve learned a lot from Kate over the years in the arena of money and abundance.  And I’ve had the pleasure of studying in person with Tami Lynn Kent who is a pioneer in holistic pelvic care.  These two powerhouses have come together to share their wisdom in how to tap into your feminine energetic self to create the abundance and wealth you desire.   This course provides a framework of exercises for you to draw upon to increase your financial flow while honoring the feminine, which is in perfect alignment with what I teach.   It’s simple, straightforward and really manageable to incorporate into your life.

The course was just launched and is only $39 if you purchase it by Friday.  Check out the course page to learn more:

I’d really like to hear from YOU.  Let me know if the course resonates, if you are inspired to create your own at-home retreat, and what manifests from these.  Join me in the conversation here.

An easy way to start your day with veggies.

My 17 year-old son’s training schedule is intense! He swims 6 hours on Monday and Wednesday, swims 3 hours and does 2 hours of dryland training on Tuesday and Thursday, and swims 3 hours on Friday and Saturday. With all that exercise you’d think he would eat large quantities of food. But he is so fatigued that he often says he’s too tired to eat.

So I’m always looking for ways to pack nutrition into each meal and snack. I thought I’d share one of the ways I get healthy fat, protein and lots of veggies into his breakfast and mine. Usually my son eats about 2/3 and I eat 1/3 of this recipe.

  1. Sauté ½ cup diced onions in a tbsp. of ghee.
  2. Add ¾ cup zucchini and ¾ cup squash diced and continue to sauté.
  3. Add ½ cup chopped tomatoes (if I don’t have large tomatoes, I slice cherry tomatoes) and continue sautéing until the tomatoes cook down a little.
  4. Beat 4 eggs and add a pinch of salt.
  5. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and finish cooking.
  6. * Sometimes I add goat cheese at the very end. Mmm….mmm..mmm.

If you’ve read my newsletter before, you know I’m not a chef….so while this dish could become a beautiful omelet, it’s usually a cross between scrambled eggs and an omelet.

The great news is that no matter what it looks like, it tastes awesome and is a great way to start your day with veggies!

Bon appetit,

What if you’re wrong about that?

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

Last week I was training one of my rising star wellness coaches. She’s a gifted massage therapist, super experienced yoga teacher, amazing vegan chef and excellent coach. But as talented as she is, she felt stuck in her business. She really wanted to get to the root of her inertia. What was keeping her from growing a successful wellness business? As we spoke it became clear to both of us that the culprit was this core belief:

“I don’t want to grow up, because grown-ups are stressed out, cranky and don’t have any fun.”

What ensued was a conversation about the 2 choices she thought she had:

1. Enjoy our lives, follow our hearts, be adventurous, play, dance, sing, laugh…and be irresponsible and broke.

2. Put our nose to the grind stone, work hard, be responsible, make money…and feel trapped, sick, bored and miserable.

I asked her, “What if you’re wrong about that? What if there’s another choice? What if being grown-up means enjoying your life AND being responsible… following your heart AND making money?” At which point she said, “Wait! That IS what I’m doing! I am responsible and I love what I do. I do make money and I’m following my heart.”

Then I said, “and you’re a grown-up! In fact, you’re the kind of grown up kids want to become!”

How about you? Have you become the kind of grown-up that is tired, stressed, cranky and not having any fun?

Have you been so caught up in taking care of “business” that you’ve lost your center, your sense of curiosity and joy, your natural rhythm?

Have you forgotten that you can fly?

If so, I created the Bliss Retreat just for you.

Costa Rica 2015

It’s a magical week where you get to…

A Legacy of Love

legacy of loveDr. Wayne Dyer transitioned from this life to the next last Saturday. His words have inspired, informed, comforted and challenged me for 30 years…starting with a cassette tape given to me by my racewalking training partner in 1985. In his honor I wanted to share one of the many powerful “a-ha” moments he gave me.

It was 1994 in a large Dallas auditorium. Dr. Dyer was the evening keynote presenter. He came on stage with a glass of water, a piece of paper and an orange. He sipped from the water every now and then as he regaled us with powerful teachings and parables. At one point he picked up the orange and asked us “If I were to cut into this orange, what would come out?”

We answered in unison “orange juice.”

“If I were to squeeze this orange really hard, what would come out?”

Again “orange juice”

“And if I were to pound this orange with my fists until the skin broke open, what would come out?”

“Yes. Of course. Because that’s what’s inside of an orange.”

“But what if it were you that I was cutting, squeezing or punching? What would come out of you?”

Lots of answers came from the audience. Words like anger, fear, rage, hate…

“And what about Jesus?” he asked. When Jesus was cut and beaten, what came out of him?”

The crowd whispered responses and then Dr. Dyer said “LOVE

“It’s not what Jesus had that made him different from you. It’s what he didn’t have. Jesus didn’t have anger, fear, rage or hate inside of him. All Jesus had inside of him was love. So that’s what came out regardless of how people treated him.”

Dr. Dyer ended the evening by asking us “So what are you willing to release so that all you have is love inside of you?”

I’ve been reflecting and releasing ever since.

Thank you, Dr. Wayne Dyer for shining your light so brightly and living so fully.

May you feel all the love you so generously offered us surround and propel you on your next adventure.

PS- Wayne had a dream to get 3 million people to watch his movie The Shift during his lifetime so that people could really learn how to go from Ambition to Meaning in their life and then share what they learned with others. Hay House is offering the opportunity to watch The Shift for FREE for the next 7 days. Here is the link
